While green tea products lie at the core of ITO EN's business, the Company is active in all beverage product categories as a comprehensive beverage manufacturer. ITO EN also boasts an extensive line-up of tea leaf products and plays a leading role in the green tea market as Japan's top manufacturer. In 2006, Mason Distributors, Inc., based in Florida, the United States, became an ITO EN subsidiary. Through this relationship, ITO EN markets supplement products under the MASON brand.
Japanese Tea Beverages
As well as our extensive Oi Ocha brand, we provide a line-up of other Japanese teas in ready-to-drink form. These include mugicha (barley tea) and sobacha (buckwheat tea). Utilizing the results of our research into the health properties of green tea, we also market a range of products recognized as "food for specified health use" (FOSHU). As Japan's top green tea beverage manufacturer, we are further expanding our market presence.
Vegetable Beverages
Our Jujitsu Yasai (vegetables galore) line was introduced in 1992, and continues to grow in popularity. Based on the concept of mixing vegetable and fruit juices, ITO EN has made vegetable juices easier to drink and contributed significantly to the growth of the vegetable juice market. Made using a proprietary method that brings out the natural sweetness of vegetables, ITO EN's vegetable juice beverages are made without any added salt or sugar, and are particularly popular owing to their easiness to drink. In 2004, we launched the Ichinichibun no Yasai (a day's worth of vegetables) line of 100%-vegetable beverages, which use—in a single pack—the equivalent of the recommended daily intake of vegetables specified by the Japanese Ministry of Health, Labour and Welfare. These products are easy to drink thanks to our original manufacturing methods, and have spurred the expansion of this market. ITO EN actively discloses the region of origin of ingredients on its product labels and through its web site. Together with our quality assurance system, we are building a relationship of trust with our customers through this open approach.
Coffee Beverages
Our coffee beverages feature the "W" brand in the ready-to-drink canned coffee category. In collaboration with our subsidiary, Tully's Coffee Japan, we have introduced a new line-up of "RTD" products. ITO EN is aggressively targeting the coffee beverage market, Japan's largest non-alcoholic beverage market.
Chinese Tea Beverages
In 1979, ITO EN became the first Japanese company to sign an import agency agreement with the China National Native Produce and Animal By-Products Import and Export Corporation for the importation of oolong tea leaves from China. This enabled us to widely introduce oolong tea to the Japanese market. In 1981, ITO EN developed the world's first canned oolong tea. Over many years since then, ITO EN has marketed a popular range of Chinese tea beverages, including oolong tea and jasmine tea.
Fruit Beverages
Our fruit beverages feature the "Vitamin Fruits" brand, which offers a fully ripened fruit taste, including apple, orange and grape. Our fruit beverages have enjoyed significant sales growth over the past few years. We have also added seasonal products to provide extra variety for consumers over the course of each year.
Mineral Water
In April 2008, ITO EN entered into an agreement with Group Danone, giving ITO EN exclusive marketing rights in Japan for Evian natural mineral water. We plan to grow sales in this category by utilizing our strong route sales system and by expanding into the commercial-use market.
Black Tea Beverages, Functional Beverages and Other Beverages
ITO EN markets a full line-up of black tea beverage products. We also sell such beverages as kurozu (black rice vinegar) that utilize traditional Japanese ingredients. Another market in which we are active is functional foods and beverages, including products recognized as "food for specified health use" (FOSHU).
Tea Leaves (Including Tea Bags and Instant Tea Products)
ITO EN provides a range of products to cater to all tastes and lifestyles. The consistently high quality of our tea leaves is recognized by consumers wanting a green tea product they can prepare and serve in the traditional manner to suit their own tastes. Tea bags offer the added convenience of tea by the cup for situations where a teapot is not practical or readily available. Instant tea products give consumers the extra choice of a superb quality tea even if they are unable to use the traditional infusion method.
